Winter Ecology Walk/Talk: Life in the Cold

Enjoy FH Fields Natural Area in Winter.

Bill Shadel, local Naturalist and Botanist, will lead the walk and discuss the winter landscape and its ongoing life processes, informing the group about hibernation, life beneath the ice of Dery’s Pond, Woodpeckers ability to draw sap from trunks of trees, insects’ cocoons around dead stalks of plants, and the stripping of trees by deer for sustenance and for shedding the velvet of their antlers.  He will describe the seemingly dormant winter as quietly supporting plant and animal life waiting to emerge in the spring. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and offer observations.

All are welcome but no dogs, please.

We will meet in the Ridge Road Parking lot of the Natural Area.
