Wind Whips Up the River in R-FH Area

Caution for flooding in low lying areas and wind

There's been status quo storm preparation in Rumson and Fair Haven.

A digital sign last night warned Rumson residents of coastal flooding and wind with Wednesday's nor'easter. And Fair Haven officials met with emergency responders and urge residents to report any outages and steer clear of downed wires, should the wind wreak havoc.

Earlier, down by the Navesink River in both towns, the water was very choppy and wind was strong.

"Here we go again," Fair Haven Mayor Ben Lucarelli said, hoping that the already damaged Fair Haven Dock, or what's left of it, would stay intact. The hope is to have it rebuilt by the end of May.

With the exception of one large limb downed on Pine Cove Road today, Lucarelli said that officials are just cautioning people to report any outages and hope for the best.

"Right now, we're still using the county dispatch system, but, if necessary, we'll return it to local," he said.

Rumson residents in the low-lying flood-prone areas, such as West Park, have been urged caution via the borough's Web site. "Coastal Flood Warning and High Wind Warning in effect Wednesday into Thursday," the announcement said.

High tide for the ocean is expected at 3 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. for the rivers, according to the National Weather Service.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Monmouth County until 6 a.m. tomorrow with wind gusts of up to 50 m.p.h. Rain is expected to turn to snow overnight with accumulations of 2 and 4 inches.
