What's the Story in the R-FH Area?

It's what's going on in the area.

The summer mood has set in and so have events and news reflecting it.

Last week, we found out that one of Fair Haven's own boys in blue, Lt. Joe McGovern is shipping off to train with the FBI at its prestigious FBI National Academy. Patch caught up with Lt. McGovern at Fair Haven Day and he says he's ready and will keep us posted. Congrats, Joe!

And, yes, Fair Haven Day was a big success. It was a perfect day for it and everyone was out. Check out our photo gallery.

Another person we ran into at Fair Haven Day was Kelly Ryan, owner of The Boondocks in Red Bank. Her business was whiped out by Sandy, but she's reopened and doing well. She will be talking all about the ordeal and what she did to get back on her feet this week at the Northern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce meeting at Park East, Hazlet for a noon luncheon.

Speaking of Sandy, Sea Bright got about $1 million more in funding last week toward its recoveryd. This week we'll be catching readers up on other progress, starting with the beach that's making its way back.

Yes, summer's on the minds of many and a sure sign that the season has arrived is that school's out very soon. So, there are graduations this week. At Knollowood School in Fair Haven, graduation is June 20. At Forrestdale in Rumson, graduation is 6 p.m. at RFH on June 24, the following Monday, but rehearsal is set for Wednesday at 9 a.m. at RFH.

And RFH graduation is next Tuesday, but this week there are banquets leading up to it. The Cheerleading Banquet is on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. At 7 p.m. on Monday as well is the Senior Awards ceremony in the auditorium. And on Tuesday is the Junior Awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m., same place.

Both Rumson and Fair Haven are having their last board of education meetings for the school year on Wednesday night at 7:30, Fair Haven's at Knollwood and Rumson's at the Forrestdale library.

Word has it that the school uniform debate will be brought back to the table in Rumson. And it will be Fair Haven Superintendent Kathi Cronin's last meeting before her official retirement date of July 1.

And to really set people on a summer path, the first Sandy Hook Beach Concert is slated for Wednesday at 6 p.m. It's a tradition around here. So, enjoy! This week's feature British Invasion Tribute at Lot E.

With the change of the seasons and the move toward summer, Patch is changing as well. We're getting a new look on Tuesday. Check us out and keep reading and submitting your annoucements, events and blogs!

We'll also be featuring business profiles on Tuesdays and look forward to more features this week on traditional spots and rites of passage in the area.

See you around the towns!
