Tornado Watch in Effect For Monmouth County

Moderate risk for tornado development between 1:00 and 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, according to National Weather Service.

Hang on to your hat and keep an eye in the sky, as the National Weather Servicehas issued a tornado watch for much of the Eastern Seaboard, including Monmouth County, through 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

Tornado Watch 411, issued by the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., warns of a moderate risk of tornadoes, hail up to 2 inches in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts up to 70 mph, and dangerous lightning.

There is a 40 percent probability of two or more tornadoes, and a 20 percent chance of one or more strong (F2-F5) tornadoes forming.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely to begin after 5 p.m., with a 60 percent chance of precipitation, including hail.
