Sea Bright Mayor, Police Chief to be Honored by Animal Rescue Organization

The two will be the honorees at a All Fur Love Animal Rescue, Inc. event

Sea Bright Mayor Dina Long and Police Chief John Sorrentino will be honored soon for their compassion and care of stray animals in the face of adversity in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

All Fur Love Animal Rescue, Inc. will be hosting its second Valentine’s dinner and gift auction on Feb. 7 at Our House Restaurant and Banquet Facility, Farmingdale.

This event will honor Long and Sorrentino for their dedication to protecting Sea Bright’s community cat population despite the tremendous devastation faced by the town after Hurricane Sandy.

They were also instrumental in instituting the town’s TNR (trap neuter return) ordinance and have been inspiring advocates for the local animals.

“Dina and John have shown true courage and compassion” said Francesca Alexander, President of All Fur Love Animal Rescue, Inc. “Despite the overwhelming responsibility of leading the people of Sea Bright following complete disaster, they remained steadfast in their dedication to protecting the animals. They are true heroes.”

Alexander worked with the two several years ago when she headed up the TNR project in the town of Sea Bright.

TNR (trap neuter return) is a humane method of population control for feral cats.  The animals are caught, spayed or neutered, given shots and vet care and then returned to their colonies under the watch of local caretakers.

The process controls the feral cat population, eliminates nuisance behaviors and reduces the transmittal of diseases such as rabies.  It costs less and is much more effective than the traditional, cruel and old school technique of catching and killing cats, which is still employed by most towns today.

All Fur Love Animal Rescue was started by Alexander after she became familiar with the policies and principles of animal shelters and animal control organizations.

She felt that the strategy of killing adoptable animals was an antiquated, unnecessary and cruel component of the animal control community and wanted to create an organization that saves animals from these and other life threatening situations.

The no-kill organization was granted its 501(c)(3) non-profit status in 2012 and has been working to save both adoptable and unadoptable animals ever since.

The All Fur Love Valentine’s Dinner & Gift Auction will bring together animal advocates throughout central NJ and beyond for a fun-filled evening which includes the famous Our House buffet dinner, music and of course an opportunity to win one or more fabulous prizes collected for the gift auction!

The event will support the mission of All Fur Love Animal Rescue with a portion of the proceeds going to help the care of the community cats of Sea Bright.

All are invited to participate in the event to support this worthy cause.  Businesses can also get involved by taking advantage of available sponsorship opportunities. In addition, individuals who can’t attend the event but wish to help support All Fur Love Animal Rescue are encouraged to send a donation.
