Put Your Name on a Piece of Fair Haven History

The Historical Association of Fair Haven, Inc is raising money to finish restoring the inside of Bicentennial Hall by creating a quilt to be hung on the wall of the hall upon completion.

Fair Haven residents have the opportunity to place their name on a piece of history.

The Historical Association of Fair Haven, Inc, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, whose mission is to promote the history and preservation of Fair Haven, is raising money by creating a quilt to be hung in Bicentennial Hall, which will include the names of all of the families who donate towards the hall’s restoration.

“We thought it would be a nice way to get people involved,” said Pat Drummond, member of the association.

The Historical Association recently donated a towards the renovation of Bicentennial Hall, formerly known as . They raised that money after hosting over a decade of garden parties. The group now wanted a way to continue fundraising with a goal of completing inside of the Hall by next year’s Bicentennial Celebration.

“About 6 or 7 years ago a group of ladies got together and made a quilt and raffled it off at the annual garden party,” said Drummond. “This is what gave us the idea to create a quilt for the hall.”

A group of local women each created a patch for the quilt. Once the patches were sewn together, they started embroidering a white picket fence along the boarder. Residents have the opportunity to have their names placed on the fence by offering donations towards the restoration of Bicenntennial Hall.

Members of the Fair Haven community can be included on the quilt by offering a donation, big or small. The costs to be included is as follows;

$25-49 for a Pickett

$100 for a Post

$250 for a Half of a Gate

$500 for a Full Gate

Those who donate can put their name or business on the fence. Pickets are suited for one name or business. Half-gates are large enough for an immediate family including parents and their children and full-gates are large enough to include a full family from grandparents down to their grand children.

“Families can come for years and show their children and grandchildren their names on this piece of history,” said Lilly Lauer, a volunteer who is helping to put the together.

Lauer recently moved to Shrewsbury after living in Fair Haven for over 40 years. She said she is proud to be working on such a worthwhile project for the town. “It’s historic pride for the town and it is wonderful because all of the money is going towards finishing the inside of Bicentennial Hall,” said Lauer.

Once complete, the quilt will be placed in a case and hung on the wall of the hall, forever making those names on the quilt a part of Fair Haven history.
