New Lease for Maple Cove Swan?

An injured swan, rescued with the help of Fair Haven resident and animal lover Cindy Burnham and treated by the SPCA, was released back into the wild Sunday.

On Thursday, Patch brought you the exclusive footage of an injured swan being captured at Maple Cove, the kayak launch located at the base of Maple Avenue in Red Bank.

The bird was captured by Red Bank Animal Control with the help of Fair Haven's Cindy Burnham and transported to a local animal shelter with unknown injuries.

On Sunday, after a few rounds of antibiotics over the course of several days, the swan, dubbed by Burnham as "Mr. Maple Cove," was released back into the wild from the same spot where he was first found limping around.

After swimming down the shoreline, Mr. Maple Cove, unfortunately, was attacked by another swan (nature is cruel) but was able to escape after a chase into some tall grass along the shoreline, hopefully to recuperate.

Keep your head up, Mr. Maple Cove. We're rooting for you!
