Hospital's Power of Pink To Be On Display This Week

Monmouth Medical Center hosting luncheon in Sandy Hook on July 21.

The mission of Monmouth Medical Center, and all hospitals, is to help people and in sometimes even save their lives.

This week, the hospital will host an event that will help inform women of the dangers of breast cancer.

The annual Power of Pink Luncheon, an event to benefit the Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center, will be held on Thursday, July 21 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Fort Chapel and Grounds at Sandy Hook.

The Women’s Council of the center chose Debra Camal, M.D., Medical Director of the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center at Monmouth Medical Center as its honoree for the day.  The guest speaker for the event will be Brian Williams, NBC Nightly News anchor.

Dr. Camal oversees the clinical operation of the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Breast Center - a facility that takes a coordinated approach to breast health, for both well and cancer care, in a comfortable and supportive environment. Dr. Camal specializes in the evaluation and treatment of women with breast cancer.

The guest speaker for the event will be NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams. Williams, a Middletown native, lost his sister to breast cancer in 2006.

The purpose of Thursday's luncheon is to bring women together to raise funds and enhance the quality of care delivered to cancer patients at Monmouth Medical Center.  Proceeds from the event have contributed to a wide range of services and programs offered through the Leon Hess Cancer Center.  This proceeds of this year's event will help fund the Patient Navigator program. 

Patient navigators provide one-on-one support for patients as they move through the hospital.
