Fort Monmouth Siren No Emergency, Authorities Say

State Police investigating errant alarm sounding from fort

A loud siren that could be heard in the Two River area and beyond Wednesday evening was an errant alarm from Fort Monmouth, according to the Two River Alert system.

A shrill alarm aroused the concern of many area residents who took to social media to debate the source of the sound, which began after 8 p.m. But there was no emergency, according to the Two River Alert System, comprised of Little Silver and Shrewsbury.

Instead, alerts from the Breaking News Network, which monitors emergency communications, stated an alarm got stuck in the "on" position.

State Police were deployed to investigate the problem, according to the Two River Alert System website.

A call to the State Police was not immediately returned late Wednesday night.
