Fifth Grader Macie Sparozic Makes a YouTube Plea to the Boss

She wants Bruce Springsteen, the Rumson resident and rock star, to come sing at her school to make her favorite teacher's dreams come true.

A fifth grader from Wyckoff, New Jersey is “Working on a Dream” to bring Rumson resident Bruce Springsteen into school for show-and-tell. You see, Macie Sparozic has this teacher who happens “to be the bestest ever” as well as a major Springsteen fan.

Mrs. Cordello, of 5C at the Sicomac School, seems to have made a great impression on her student who claims to have never even made a peep in the classroom until she had this teacher.

“I never spoke up until now,” said the soft-spoken little girl with long light brown hair and a face full of freckles. Macie whipped out her mom's lap top and proudly pulled up the YouTube Video where she made a plea to "The Boss". What followed was a film clip of Macie reading from a letter she drafted “all by myself.”

Mrs. Cordello, whose classroom is decorated in all Bruce, has posters and movies of the Boss whom she admires as a role model for adults and kids.

“We even take Bruce Breaks,” giggled Macie who explained that when the class was struggling with a writing project, Mrs. Cordello would often tell the kids to close their books and watch a Bruce video for inspiration. She says that productivity spikes as the rocker struts back and forth on a stage, strumming his guitar enthusiastically and singing his poetry with passion.

Cordello’s student comes from a long line of Bruce fans as Macie’s dad, Michael, is also a fan. Macie’s sister Felicia, a Ramapo High School Junior, also had Mrs. Cordello and is also an avid fan of Springsteen’s.

In her YouTube video, Macie very logically outlines the reasons why Bruce should visit 5C. She uses statistics, evidence of evolving math skills taught by Cordello. She tells the Boss that if her teacher taught an average of 25 students in each of the 25 years she has been teaching, that would amount to at least 625 new Bruce fans, not to mention extended family and friends!

“Will you please, please, PLEASE come Mrs. Cordello’s class,” Macie asks softly, “She is everything you write about.”

She goes on to explain, “Mrs. Cordello told us that if you want your dreams to come true, you have to keep working on them and this is what I did,” said Macie who has already put her family to work passing along her video via all of their Facebook Friends. (Macie’s Mom wisely monitors her enthusiastic daughter saying she is too young to have unlimited access to the Internet.)

As of this week, Macie Sparozic has already counted nearly 900 hits; the news of the eleven year old’s video is going viral, at least in North Jersey.

“I have seen Bruce Springsteen in concert at least ten times,” she said glowing proudly in her blue speckled fifth grade t-shirt.

“She is in her glory days," said Macie's mom, who hopes that this will appear on a Patch near Rumson.
