Expect Traffic Delays on Newman Springs Road Starting Today

Work on bridge to start

If you're headed down Newman Springs Road, expect delays at night — for the next six months.

Starting Monday, the Monmouth County will begin a project to replace the bridge decks on the bridges over the Swimming River between the Garden State Parkway and Hance Avenue, according to a release from the county.

Traffic over the bridge near the Garden State Parkway entrance on Newman Springs will be restricted to a single lane in each direction. Work and the lane alterations will take place in the evenings after rush hour with a reduction in the speed limit to 25 miles per hour and no pedestrian access.

"The existing concrete decks on both bridges will be completely removed and replaced by new concrete decks and bridge railings of the same dimensions as existing," the release said. "Work will include complete replacement of the bridge approach slabs including the curb, sidewalk, and guiderail."
