Celebration: Oceanic Bridge Re-opening

Does anyone know what classic film, starring Doris Day, featured a clip of her driving over the bridge? Tell us in the comments section below.

The re-opening of the is considered a big reason to celebrate, especially for , Fair Haven and Middletown residents.

And everyone will have their chance to do just that at the official ribbon cutting and re-opening ceremony, hosted by area and Monmouth County Officials, at 10 a.m. on Friday morning on the bridge.

The 98-foot drawbridge span of the 2,754-foot-long historic art deco bridge . Work on what is called the bascule (moveable) span included: installation of a new grid deck, replacement and rehabilitation of deck support steel, beams and catwalk. Rust was also removed and metal was sanded and repainted.

County officials promised the bridge would re-open in time for Memorial Day weekend and be better equipped to handle the estimated 12,000 vehicles a day that traverse it.

Monmouth County Engineer Joseph Ettore recently told Patch that the good winter weather helped speed up what he called a “reasonable, but aggressive” schedule to complete the repairs.
The bridge spans Rumson and the Locust and Navesink sections of Middletown.

Many people cross it regularly for recreational walking, running and biking purposes over the Navesink River.

Patch was out and about in Rumson and Sea Bright today and there was a lot of buzz about the “happy day” of the bridge re-opening approaching. Judging from what we heard today, a crowd is expected to show up.

Here’s a question for Oceanic Bridge fans: Do you know what classic movie includes a clip of Doris Day riding over the bridge? Tell us in the comments section below. Speak up, everyone. We know someone out there can guess!

At the end of the day, I'll tell you who is correct and, yes, you will get a little Patch token when we see you at the ribbon-cutting! Diane, try again. It was the Oceanic Bridge ...

Sorry Elaine , but it was the Cooper Bridge. My spouse and I live very close to that bridge and were delighted a few years back to notice it in "That Touch of Mink". So delighted, that we went out and bought the DVD and slow-motioned frame by frame during that scene. It was neat to see the area pre-Hovnanian building - there were lots of trees in that spot. Doris and Cary cross the bridge into Red Bank and you can see the gas station that used to be where Strollo's Ice Cream is now.

Jesse. You are absolutely correct about that particular movie. But there is also another Doris Day movie that features the Oceanic. Hey, both bridges are in movie classics! Gotta love that! Now, tell me which one featured the Oceanic. I know you can figure this one out. ;)

That would be "Pillow Talk". Doris Day filmed in our area a few times - I wonder how she liked it? She should've bought a house here!
