Looking out onto the Shrewsbury River from Rumson's banks the view is both blistering and beautiful.
Just more than three months after Hurricane Sandy blew through boundaries and merged the Altantic Ocean with the river, remnants of the ensuing devastation remain.
Riverside chain-link fences are still downed and mangled, a couple of boats still sit crooked atop broken docks, the island between the banks of the two towns is loaded with debris and someone's drifted belongings from somewhere.
The Rumson-Sea Bright bridge is being repaired. And, across the bay pieces of docks and cement borders are still broken to bits and half clinging to the shore.
The mountains of sand collected from the streets and piled to be redistributed on the Sea Bright beaches is ominously hopeful looking. Trucks are visible from Rumson and so are signs of activity in the still near desolate shore borough.
The river somehow serene, after all it's been through. And the sky in the late afternoon is lit with colored hues.
