5 Things You Need to Know Today: Sept 2

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Sunny & Warm: According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny with a high near 74 degrees. There will be an east wind between 6 and 10 mph. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 63 degrees. There will be a south wind around 7 mph. 

2. Honoring 9/11: With the start of the school year and the ten year anniversary of Sept. 11 fast approaching, Forrestdale Principal Jennifer Gibbons discussed what the school has planned for the the honoring of the 10th anniversary. Lessons have been created that allow students to write journals, poems, analyze songs, make quilts and other activities as a way to reflect according to Gibbons. The day of service, Sept. 12, will involve students walking to various parks to clean up the area. 3. Bulldog Pride: For the first time since the current state playoff system began in 1974, the Bulldogs come into a season as defending sectional champions. They shocked previously undefeated Matawan, 13-7, to capture the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II crown, their first state sectional title, after having lost to the Huskies during the regular season. Now comes the hard part – defending it. 4. No Power? No Problem! According to the JCP&L website, there are still 400 people in Rumson and Fair Haven without power and over 40 in Sea Bright due to storm damage from Hurricane Irene. 5. Fun at the Fair: The Fair Haven Fireman's Fair continues through the weekend. Head down to the fire department's grounds around 6 on today or tomorrow to enjoy the last days.
