5 Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 16

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

1. An Early Fall Beauty: The National Weather Service is reporting that today will be sunny and breezy, with a high near 66 degrees. Tonight temps will dip to around 51. The rest of the weekend looks to be sunny as well, with temperatures continuing to hover in the mid-60s. 

2. Restauranteur Out of the Race: Thanks to Hurricane Irene, Marilyn Schlossbach, owner of the popular restaurants,and Trinity and the Pope, among others, will not be running for state assembly. Find out here who will take her place in the race.

3. Meet a Giant: Legendary linebacker of the Giants, Harry Carson, will be at River Road Books signing his book Captain for Life on Saturday at 2 pm. Carson will only be able to sign books purchased at the River Road store so call ahead to reserve your copy, (732) 747-9455.

4. Demo Sale: The wrecking ball will be visiting 18 Bellevue Ave. in Rumson soon. But not before you have had a chance to get the goods this Sat. from 9 am – 2 pm. Before the demolition, the owners have agreed to donate the contents to Habitat for Humanity to sell to raise funds. Everything is for sale!   

5. Happy Birthday:  is celebrating its 20th year in business Saturday at it's Fair Haven and West Long Branch locations. Shoppers will be treated to 20 percent off all day (except for designer bags) and 20 drawings for free giveaways. The River Road store is open from 10 am - 6 pm. After you've picked out the perfect outfit, stop at next door. The coastal home decor shop is having a tent sale.
