5 Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 28

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. This Afternoon: According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny with a high near 52 degrees and a north wind between 8 and 10 mph. Tonight will be cloudy with a low around 41 degrees and a northeast wind between 6 and 10 mph. There is a chance of rain late in the night that will continue through Saturday.

2. History of Volunteerism: Last night, the Junior League of Monmouth County (JLMC) hosted an event at their headquarters to celebrate the completion of the first phase of their Building Opportunities Campaign. This campaign began in 2008 by JLMC sustainers and was designed to bring in additional funds to help restore the historic building. 3. Operation Give Back: On Saturday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Rumson Police Department will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. You can turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal at police headquarters located at the rear of Borough Hall, 80 E. River Rd. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. 4. Spooky Fun: Tonight is filled with spook-tacular events in Rumson and Fair Haven starting with the first annual Halloween Egg Hunt in McCarter Park at 6:00 p.m. According to Councilman Marchese, it is exactly like the Easter Egg Hunt minus the bunny plus kids in costumes. Around 7 pm, 6-8 grade students at the Knollwood school can head to their annual Halloween dance. 8th graders in Rumson can head to from 8-10 pm for their spellbound dance.

5. Halloween Curfews: Both Rumson and Fair Haven will have a curfew in place for Mischief Night (October 30) and Halloween. In Fair Haven, anyone 18 and under is banned from being out without parental escort from 7 pm to dawn on Mischief Night and after 8 pm on Halloween.
