Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Veterans Day: According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny, with a high near 53. It will be breezy with a west wind between 21 and 25 mph. Tonight will be mostly clear with a chilly low around 37 with a west wind between 14 and 18 mph.

2. Veterans Day Ceremonies: Today is Veterans Day and both Rumson and Fair Haven Boroughs are taking some time to honor those in our community who serve our country. At 11:00 on 11/11/11, head to in Rumson or in Fair Haven for Veterans Day Ceremonies.

3. Veterans Services: The Monmouth County Veterans Services Office celebrates its first anniversary on Friday, Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day. Freeholder Amy A. Mallet, who steered the initiative, says the office has been an absolute success. Click to read about the office and what they have to offer.

4. Honor Those Who Serve: Today is Veterans Day 2011 and Rumson-Fair Haven Patch wants to honor the veterans in our community. If you have a special photo or story to share about yourself or a member of America’s armed forces, please share them. We’re happy to honor men and women who've served in the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard and National Guard—both veterans and active duty. 5. Dogs Serve, Too: The Sixth Annual Run For Dennis will take place on Sunday, November 13 at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ. The run is hosted every year to benefit the Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski, II Memorial Fund which provides care and support for those serving our country and their families. This year they have partnered with the new SGT. DENNY PROJECT to provide military working dogs and their handlers with hard-to-obtain items to support the training and welfare of these canine heroes. Click to read more about this project. They are asking for donations including:

  • Tennis balls (new or gently used), which are used as a training reward for bomb sniffing dogs
  • One-ingredient treats (such as freeze dried liver)
  • Kong® toys
  • Nylabone® chews and toys
  • Unscented shampoo with oatmeal added to prevent dry skin
  • Collapsible water bowls
  • Leather leashes
