5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 9

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Some Sun: Yesterday was a beautiful day to honor all of the mothers in our lives with highs in the 70's. According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 67. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 48.

2. Fish Tales: Fair Haven’s fishing derby is held the 1st Saturday in May each year at McCarter’s Pond on Fair Haven Rd.  The event has taken place for at least 40 years and is a great small town family event.  The pond is stocked each year with catfish, bluegills (sunfish) and bass.  There are prizes for the most fish caught, the first fish caught and the biggest fish in two age groups (under 8 years and over 8 years). Click here to watch a video about the event and see who won.

3. Rocking on the River: As the sun set over the Navesink River Friday night, families gathered together for the second installment of this summer's Sounds at Sunset Concert Series. Salva Vidas played for family, friends and neighbors at the concert. They opened their performance with "Carolina in My Mind," by James Taylor. This smooth, soft rock song set off the night as the evening breeze blew over the Fair Haven dock. 4. Signs of Spring: Lauren Mattia from the REAL Jersey Shore says that even though her alergies are killing her, Spring is a beautiful season in Fair Haven. Click to watch and see if your street was featured in this week's video. Comment for a chance to be featured in a REAL Jersey Shore video.
