5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 26

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Sunny Skies: According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny with a high near 73. South wind between 9 and 13 mph. The nice warm spring weather will continue tonight as it will be partly cloudy with a low around 66. Get out of your house this evening and take a stroll over to the Forrestdale School in Rumson for An Evening of Fine Arts or stop by the Knollwood School for their Math and Physics Night.

2. A Big Check: Keeping up with technology is a challenge for any school district. Lucky for Rumson students, the Rumson Education Foundation (REF) raises money for that exact reason. Founded over 15 years go, REF is a not-for-profit organization that fund raises to provide educational needs that could not be funded through school budgets. On May 25, the REF president presented the Rumson Board of Education a check for over $106,000 at the recognition ceremony in the Forrestdale Eighth Grade Commons. 3. Generous Donations: The Fair Haven Board of Education also received some great generosity last night. The district was handed the gift of $7,500 from the Fair Haven Booster Club and also the gift of 40 new laptops to the Knollwood Media Center from the Fair Haven Education Foundation. 4. This Kid Rocks! Another Patch Whiz Kid is Chrissy Lushefski, a great lacrosse player and leader. Lushefski has sent her letter of intent to attend and play lacrosse forDartmouth College in the Fall. Lushefski, a high school senior at RFH has been playing lacrosse in T3’s Elite Program on the T3 Shore 2011 team which finished with a 19-4 record overall including division championships at the All American Showcase and Best of the Beach tournaments in the summer of 2010. 5. And the Basie Goes to: Last night the Count Basie Theatre announced winners for its sixth annual Basie Awards.  These awards recognize outstanding achievement in the dramatic and musical theater productions of Monmouth County's high school theater companies. Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School was for 5 drama awards and 4 musical awards. Our local high school left the night with 3 Basies including Outstanding Lighting Design by Emily Lovell and Stefan Mann for Hunchback of Notre Dame and Best Costume Design for Carole Malik for her work in both Hunchback of Notre Dame and .
