5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 24

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. More Showers: According to the National Weather Service, today will be partly sunny with a high near 81 degrees. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly after 2:00 p.m. There will be a southwest wind around 11 mph. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low around 62. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the night with a west wind between 7 and 11 mph. 

2. Art-tastic: Beautiful works of art were displayed Monday night at Deane Porter Elementary School in Rumson for the annual art show. Hallways throughout the school were lined with artwork from kindergarten through third grade. There was a wide variety of different art projects that were displayed. Some of the projects included: nature-face photographs, Starry Night self-portrait, Miro inspired people and Native American inspired pottery. Click to view a photo gallery of the student work.

3. Buckle Up: The Fair Haven Police Department (FHPD) will aggressively look for motorists not wearing their seat belts, and those who aren't buckled up should be prepared to pay. The department is taking part in this year’s statewide Click It or Ticket program, from May 23rd to June 5th, employing a zero tolerance approach to those who are found to be unbuckled, according to FHPD Sergeant Robert Townshend.  FHPD is one of hundreds of police departments participating throughout the state. 4. Serving Our Community: Mayor Halfacre on behalf of the council and residents took time at a council meeting to recognize the hard work done by the borough Department of Public Works (DPW). The week of May 15 was National Public Works Week. Halfacre said they did not get word of this until May 18, but wanted to recognize them now. Click to read more about the proclamation.

5. Dining Out for a Good Cause: Looking for an excuse to eat out? Well, tonight there is a good one. On May 24, 2011 is the Rumson "" to benefit LUNCH BREAK  in Red Bank, NJ. Join in the fight against hunger by dining out in one of our participating establishments in Rumson. A portion of the evening's proceeds will be donated directly to Lunch Break. Participating restaurants include:

- Salt Creek Grille
