5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 8th

A round-up of useful information about what is happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Sunny Skies Ahead: Don't forget your sunglasses as you leave the house today. Although it will not be as hot as the volcanoe erupting in Hawaii, Rumson and Fair Haven residents are in for another beautiful day. Today will be mostly sunny with a high around 46. Tonight there is a low around 32 so grab a coat as you head to the Rumson Borough Council meeting at Borough Hall or the Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School Board of Education meeting in the high school library, both starting at 7:30 p.m. 

2. Bulldog Fans: Patch wants to wish lots of luck to the girls' basketball team from RFH. The Lady Bulldogs had a 53-34 victory in the semifinal round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 2 tournament in Berkeley Heights on Friday night. They will face Shabazz High School from Newark on tonight for the state title. This has been a goal for the team since the : "We've got one goal and one goal only. That is to win a state championship," said Ashley Cooper, a senior shooting guard, back in December.

3. Entrepreneurial Spirit: Women around Rumson and Fair Haven are smart, strong and business minded. They can see a need for something and aren't afraid to create an answer. Anne Delaney from Rumson is the owner of , a new business that enables groups or individuals to sell their unwanted gold jewelry to be recycled at their own homes or local businesses around Rumson and Fair Haven. Jen McCathy is a Fair Haven resident who is answering the need for a resource for wellness by developing a website called YourWellnessNJ where you can find a directory of health and wellness providers from throughout New Jersey. 

4. Going Down, Down: Traffic tickets in a number of municipalities are way up. According to an investigation done by the Asbury Park Press, some towns have doubled or even tripled, their the amount of tickets given in the last half of 2010, when compared to the same time in 2009. There is a lot of conversation around the cause of this spike, questioning the need for law enforcement or more revenue? Interestingly enough, Rumson and Fair Haven numbers are down: Rumson is down 4 percent, from 498 to 478 and Fair Haven is down 15.7 percent from 530 to 447.
