5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 30

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 thing you need to know today:

1. Another Nice One: According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny with a high near 43 degrees. You might want to throw your umbrella in your car because there is a chance of rain or drizzle, mainly after 1am. It will be cloudy into the evening with a low around 36. Chance of precipitation is 30%. 

2. RFH Budget: The BOE from Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School passed the tentative budget at their meeting last night.The total tentative budget including general fund, special revenue and debt service is $17,225,797. The tax levy is $15, 056,632, which is $165, 095 more than the 2010-2011 school year. Superintendent Peter Righi said, “This 1.11 percent increase in taxes is the lowest in well over a decade." This means that the tax rate for Rumson residents will decrease by $1.41 per $100,000 of assessed property value. Fair Haven residents will see a tax increase of $10.92 per $100,000 of assessed property value.  Click here to read more about the 2011-12 budget.

3. Rocking Out to Save the Music: RFH hosted , a benefit concert for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, on March 24, 2011. The concert raised over $3,300 for the non-profit organization that reaches out to America's public schools by raising money and awareness to the importance of music education. The concert included about 20 songs including classics from The Doors, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zepplin and Meatloaf. 4. Gals Night Out: The Junior League of Monmouth County’s (JLMC) will be hosting a fundraising event, “Not Just Another Ladies Night” at Salt Creek Grille in Rumson tonight from 7:30-9:30pm in an effort to empower women in crisis.   The JLMC will use proceeds from the event to support a nutrition-based life skills workshop for the women served by Spring House and Manna House, two Monmouth County transitional homes serving homeless women and their children.  Tickets to the event are $60 each and can be purchased in advance at www.jlmc.org.

5. Want to learn to play bridge? Head on over to Bingham Hall in Rumson on Wednesdays from now until May and you will be a pro. Liz Walsh, a certified Bridge instructor, will be hosting . The mid-week lessons are from 1-3 p.m. To register for the classes, print the registration form in the gallery of this article or from the borough website. Bridge lessons are $125 and must be paid for with a check or money order.
