5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 15

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of things you need to know today:

1. Trashed in Fair Haven: Fair Haven Borough Council announced at the meeting last night that trash removal will go private starting May 2nd. Currently, the borough Department of Public Works runs trash removal and recycling. The trucks used are nearing the end of their lifespan. Councilman Peters said the switch to private service will save the town $110,000 this year alone. Until then, the trash pick-up schedule will remain the same.

2. New Yard Sale Fee: Fair Haven resident who want to participate in the town-wide yard sale this year may have to pay a $2 fee. According to the mayor, the fee will cover some advertising for the sale and the resources used by the surplus of people who come into the borough for the sale. The public hearing for the adoption of this addition to the current ordinance will be on March 28.
