5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 7

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. A Beautiful Day in R-FH: According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny with a high near 82 degrees. There will be a southwest wind between 9 and 13 mph. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 69 degrees. West wind around 8 mph. Beautiful weather to enjoy a nice night watching movies in the park (see below).

2. Free Movie: Head over to Fair Haven Fields tonight to watch "Back to the Future" on giant outdoor movie screens for FREE. The event is hosted by Shore Flicks, an outdoor movie company bringing family fun to Monmouth and Ocean Counties and all of New Jersey. They use 16' and 40' Inflatable Screens with top-notch projection and sound systems to entertain anywhere from 30 to 3,000 people. This summer, they have teamed up with InVision EyeCare to bring a to Monmouth County. They'll be showing sixty free movies in ten towns across Monmouth County June-August,  including Fair Haven Fields, and every event will be free to the public.

3. Upgrade at Rumson Schools: Both Rumson Borough and the Rumson School District in a first-ever joint effort have teamed up to address what they deem is a long-needed improvement: the revitalization of the school’s athletic fields. The plans for upgrading the fields, according to Borough Administrator Thomas Rogers, include completely updating the existing ball field and also upgrading the current mini soccer field with a full-size regulation soccer field. The project will also expand the blacktop play area and mini basketball courts. Click to read more about this project.

4. Gone Fishin'? Thanks to a Fair Haven neighbor, there is a new local shop you can stop at to get all of your bait and tackle needs. If you head down the end of River Rd., you will run right into Pride Fishing Tackle on Front St. in Red Bank. The shop’s been open a week, opening less than month after Berry earned approval from Red Bank’s Zoning Board in May to turn an out-of-use print shop on Front Street into the area’s newest retail fishing destination.
