5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 23

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Rain, Rain, Go Away: Today will be cloudy with a high near 80. Grab your umbrella as you head out the door because showers and thunderstorms are likely throughout the afternoon. Tonight, the showers and thunderstorms will continue mainly before 8p.m. with a low around 67. 

2. New Staff Members in the Fall: Although the school year just came to a close, the search for a new principal is heating up with the Fair Haven Board of Education with the appointment of new professional staff members and the review process of the principal candidates beginning in a little over a week. 3. Bomb Threat: The scene has been cleared at 97 E. River Road after a  was called in a little after 10:00 this morning. The fire department and the police closed all surrounding roads and informed the neighboring homes. "The building was evacuated and the Monmouth County bomb dog came out and checked the area," said Rumson Police Chief Richard Tobias. Although the scene was cleared, the police are still looking into who made the call. 4. Expanding the Rowing Program: The plans to unveil a new boathouse in Victory Park and an opportunity to access the Shrewsbury River were presented by both the Rumson and Fair Haven recreation committees and mayors at the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) Board of Education Meeting last night in the high school library. 5. More Summer Traffic: Just when you thought the worst traffic scenario you might encounter while driving through Little Silver back to Rumson and Fair Haven was getting caught by two trains stopping at the station simultaneously, there's a new wrinkle about to be added to rush hour back ups this summer. Beginning July 7, Sycamore Avenue will be closed to traffic at the Little Silver Station for the work, which includes renewal of the track bed and road surface.
