5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 16

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Sun and Showers: According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny with a high near 77 degrees. There will be a west wind between 11 and 14 mph. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low around 65 degrees. There will be scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly after 11:00 p.m. and a south wind between 13 and 15 mph. 

2. Congrats Grads! The students from  will leave behind their elementary school days in pursuit of their High School years. On Wednesday night, the 8th grade class from Knollwood School had their graduation ceremony at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School. 88 students proceeded into the auditorium and filled the stage. 3. Barking Up a Debate: Rumson residents are frustrated and angry about what they are calling a clear cutting on Navesink Avenue. Over twenty Rumson residents attended the council meeting on June 14 to discuss an “egregious act” that took place on Navesink Avenue. Residents, led by Cindy Zipf and Rick Jones, say the builders on their neighboring lot have committed a clear cutting of a fully wooded lot of mature trees over the past couple of weeks. 4. Serial Theif Found: Police have charged a teen they believe is responsible for many of the vehicle break-ins happening around Monmouth County the past few months. Last Friday, Rodney Tyler, age 19 of Farmingdale was arrested and charged with Theft and 40 counts of burglary according from Fair Haven alone, said Fair Haven Detective Jesse Dykstra. He also faces charges from Rumson and 63 counts of burglary from Tinton Falls. Wall Twp. Police initiated the arrest after finding Tyler in the vicinity of a burglary. 5. Summer Reading: Looking for some summer reading? Head over to River Road Books to get a personalized copy of a book to read while lounging on the beach. Mary Kay Andrews will be of her new book Summer Rental at 7:30 p.m. on River Rd.  The book is about three friends who try to recapture their youth with a summer by the beach, but get caught up in their own adult drama. A portion of the book sales will benefit Clean Ocean Action.
