5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 15

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Sunny and Breezy: Grab your shades and a light sweater. Today is going to be a beautiful spring day. According to the National Weather Service, to day will be mostly sunny with a high near 77 degrees. There will be a North wind around 10 mph. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 65 degrees and a Southwest wind between 5 and 8 mph. 

2. Dance the Night Away: Tonight, students from the Knollwood School are graduating from the 8th grade. After the ceremony at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, the kids are bussed back to Knollwood and then run to Sickles School for their surprise themed graduation dance. The 8th grade graduation dance has been a long time tradition for Knollwood School. 3. Smart and Athletic: Rumson-Fair Haven (RFH) Pop Warner is a program that takes pride in its athletes performance not on the field, but also in the classroom. On Monday, the Dawgs' continued the tradition of awarding players and cheerleaders for their academic and community involvement by awarding the RFH Pop Warner 2011 Scholarship to Senior, Michael Villiapiano. Each year, RFH Pop Warner also awards the most academically accomplished scholar athletes who maintain a minimum 96% grade point average in school and are active in their community. This year, 25 RFH Pop Warner players and cheerleaders applied for the 2010 Pop Warner National Scholastic All-American Program. 4. Don't Cry Wolf: Yesterday, the Coast Guard authorities said they were suspending the active search for a reported sunken sailboat and four people in distress off the coast of Sandy Hook, but were still treating it as a legitimate case. Now that case is being investigated as possible hoax, for which there are myriad federal violation penalties. 5. Exploring Our Resources: The Fair Haven Natural Area Committee has cancelled their  scheduled for this evening at 6:00 p.m. This event was rescheduled to June 22 because of possible rain this evening. This walk will explore all of the birds that live and fly through our beautiful Natural Area. It is free to attend and open to all ages. Even though the walk will not be organized tonight, today is a beautiful day to enjoy the natural area with a friend or your dog due to the wonderful, light spring weather.
