5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 21

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Hot, Hot, Hot! According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny with a high near 92 degrees. Click here for tips on how to stay cool in this extreme heat. There will be a southwest wind between 9 and 15 mph. Tonight we will have patchy fog after 2:00 a.m. Otherwise, skies will be mostly clear with a low around 75 degrees and a southwest wind between 6 and 13 mph. 

2. Pump it Up: Instead of kicking back with a sandwich from their favorite deli, a group of  (DPW) employees are hitting the gym during their lunch breaks 5 days a week. Superintendent Mark Wellner says working out and keeping fit will help reduce injuries on the job.

3. Rock for a Cause: Head over to the Dockside Restaurant and Tiki Bar tonight around 7:00 p.m. to help raise money for children with cancer. The Sherman Brothers Band and NRG will be playing, while Lou Russo from 94.3 The Point will be the emcee. $45 in advance. $50 at door. Food and Open Bar (beer, wine, sangria) from 7:00- 9:00 p.m. There will also be a 50/50 Raffle. 5. Lights On: At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, Monmouth County Freeholder John P. Curley flipped a switch inside a large black box at the intersection of Harding Road (County Route 34) and Prospect Avenue to give the people of Fair HavenLittle Silver and Red Bank the traffic light they've desired there for years.
