5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 12

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Feeling Hot, Hot, HOT! With temperatures expected to hit 99 degrees on Tuesday, July 12, Monmouth County has been put under a heat advisory. The heat advisory will be in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service, the heat and humidity will create dangerous conditions, making temperatures feel like 101 degrees. Click for more details.

2. Give Blood, Get Gas: The Central Jersey Blood Center is offering $10 gasoline cards to every person who donates blood at the Monmouth County blood drive. The blood drive will take place Tuesday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Monmouth County Health Department, 3435 Route 9 in Freehold. Click to learn more.

3. 10 Great Years and He's Outta There: After 10 seasons as Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School's head baseball coach in which he brought the program to new heights, Kevin James said he has stepped down to spend more time with his family. In his 10 seasons, RFH won or shared five division titles and also won the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II title in 2004. Click to read what he had to say about his retirement.

4. Family Fun is a Victory: Rumson’s Family Fun Night started this Sunday, July 10, 2011 in front of the park off of River Rd. on the Navesink. Energy and excitement filled the air as Yosi and the Superdads rocked the gazebo at  for Rumson families this weekend.
