5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 5

1. Cloudy: Thursday will be cloudy, though slightly warmer than yesterday, according to the National Weather Service forecast. The high for the day will be near 42 and the overnight low will be around 31.

2. After School Classes: Fair Haven Recreation will host three after school courses in January: Creative Writing, After School Art and Acting Workshop. The Creative Writing class is open to children in Kindergarten through third grade and will be held Jan. 11, 18 and 25 and Feb. 1 from 2:45 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. at Sickles School. After School Art is open to children in Kindergarten through third grade and will be held Jan. 12, 19 and 26 and Feb. 2 from 2:45 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. in the Sickles School art room. Acting Workshop is open to children in grades four through eight and will be held Jan. 13, 20 and 27 and Feb. 3 from 3:05 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Knollwood School. The cost is $50 per course. 3. Bundle up: Deane-Porter School Principal Richard Karas reminds parents to make sure children are wearing appropriate outerwear as the temperatures drop. Students should be prepared to go outside for recess unless it is raining or the temperatures are extreme.

4. Government Meeting: The Fair Haven Zoning Board will meet at 7:15 p.m. at Borough Hall.

5. Newsletter Input: Fair Haven is seeking input on the Focus on Fair Haven monthly newsletter. Currently, the newsletter is mailed to 467 and emailed  to over 500 residents each month. The borough is considering converting to a quarterly newsletter that would be mailed to all postal patrons in the entire municipality for approximately the same cost. Borough Administrator Theresa S.
