5 Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 1

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Showers: According to the National Weather Service, today will have isolated showers before 1pm. The rest of the day will be cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 59 degrees. There will be a west wind between 10 and 16 mph. Tonight, there will be increasing clouds with a low around 39 degrees and a north wind between 7 and 11 mph.

2. Pink Out: Although they are rivals on the basketball court, the girls’ teams at and Red Bank Regional High School have joined forces to raise funds for breast cancer research. On Thursday, February 2, the teams from both schools will face off in a “Pink Out” basketball game, also known as “Shoot for a Cure.” Click for more detais and to learn about the dress code!

3. Providing Jobs: In a difficult economy, there is a local organization that helps people find jobs. CVR trains and employs disabled residents in Monmouth and Ocean counties while providing services for area businesses. Click to learn more about this organization.

4. Pay to Play: A nonprofit citizens’ group is calling for the Monmouth County freeholder board to reconsider its vote to rescind the county’s pay-to-play regulations in favor of the state’s standards. The freeholders voted unanimously to adopt the state’s campaign reform legislation during the governing body’s regular meeting on Thursday, Jan. 26 at the building in Freehold.
