5 Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 28

A roundup of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

1. Sunny and Breezy: The National Weather Service forecast calls for Wednesday to be mostly sunny and breezy. Winds will be between 18 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. The high for the day will be near 46 degrees and the overnight low will be around 30, according to the National Weather Service.

2. Father-Daughter Dance Registration: Register for the Fair Haven Parks & Recreation Department’s father-daughter dance. The dance will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Raven and the Peach. Registration is due at the recreation office before Feb. 1, and space is limited.

The event will feature a DJ and a three-course dinner. Each girl will receive a gift and pictures of fathers and daughters will be taken.

3. Bulldog Christmas Classic: will continue hosting the Bulldog Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament on Wednesday. Holy Cross will take on Rumson Country Day School at 5 p.m. and Forrestdale will face Knollwood at 7 p.m.

The tournament will include singing and shooting contests, Santa and elves, prizes and more. An ugly holiday sweater contest will be held between games on Wednesday. The winner will receive $100.

4. Government Meeting Canceled: The Fair Haven Environmental Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled due to a lack of a quorum.

5. Oceanic Free Library 2012 Calendar: The Oceanic Free Library is selling a 16-month calendar featuring artwork by Rumson students. The calendar costs $10.
