5 Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 16

1. Running out of ideas for kids Christmas presents? Holiday shopping is so stressful and it can be so hard to find kids unique gifts that they will enjoy. Well, Patch is here to help! Check out today's holiday coverage to get ideas for gifts.

2. One week left until winter break! Actually there are 5-and-a-half school days left. Superintendent Dr. Righi announced at a meeting this week that Thursday, Dec. 23 will be a half-day at the high school. Good news for kids, maybe not so much for parents doing last minute shopping.

3. Need to relax after all that holiday stress? Check out the  tonight at the school at 7pm. The students will be singing a variety of holiday melodies that are sure to bring you some holiday spirit right when you were about to say, "Bah Humbug!"

4. Can get enough carols? You can check out the  at the Count Basie Theater. Holiday Express is a traveling Christmas show that features over 70 of the best musicians from the Jersey Shore who play for absolutely no pay. For the past 18 years, this group has delivered toys, clothing, food and fun to children with cancer, people living with AIDS, the mentally ill, disadvantaged families, the isolated elderly and the desperately homeless. The annual benefit concert at the Count Basie Theatre is a significant fund raiser for the organization. Tickets range from $25-100. Throughout the performance, audience members will see more than 50 musicians and singers on the stage, playing a variety of songs including "White Christmas", "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" (with the Grinch himself in attendance) and Chuck Berry's "Run, Run Rudolph". The show is tonight at 7:30pm.

5. This holiday tradition is sure to cure any Scrooge: The is a holiday tradition now in its seventh year. The crawl starts in the Highlands at The Claddagh on Bay Ave. at 4 pm and ends up at Val's Tavern on East River Road in Rumson at 10 pm. In between, about 40 to 50 fellows who live in the Two River Area, will be shuttled from bar/restaurants from Highlands to Sea Bright and finally to Rumson.
