5 Things You Need to Know Today: August 5

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Summer Wind: According to the National Weather Service, today will be partly sunny with a high near 84 degrees. There will be a south wind between 8 and 10 mph. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low around 69 degrees. There will be a south wind between 5 and 10 mph. 

2. Donkey Kong: Fair Haven parents are talking and building excitement about a new place to bring their kids. Ken Kalada is hoping to tap into the nostalgia of adults who were the first generation to grow up in arcades. With the OK from the Red Bank Zoning Board, Kalada has been cleared to open up his dream business, a retro arcade he’s already got a name for: Yestercades. 3. Healing Art: The Healing Power of Art II opened on July 30, 2011 with a reception from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Guild of Creative Art in Shrewsbury. The show will run from July 29-August 23 and features more than 80 artworks in a variety of media. The show was created by Kristen Lanfrank, a member of the Lin’s Linens board and art teacher. The Guild of Creative Art generously donated its gallery space and is dividing its commission with Lin’s Linens. Funds raised will be used to create comforting spaces for women as they cope with cancer. Click  to read more about the show and the organization it is benefiting.

4. Summer Enrichment: For over 15 years, students from Red Bank and Long Branch have come to the Rumson Country Day School to be a part of the Horizons Program, which is a six-week academic, cultural and recreational enrichment program offered during the summers. The program is offered to students from a diverse, low-income population in grades K-8. 5. Family Fun: This Sunday is another concert in part of the series of Family Fun Nights at Victory Park hosted by the Rumson Recreation Commission.
