5 Things You Need to Know Today: August 25

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. This Afternoon: According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly cloudy with a high near 81 degrees with showers throughout the day. South wind around 15 mph. Tonight, showers and thunderstorms are likely throughout the night. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Patchy fog after 2:00 a.m. There will be a low around 69 degrees. West wind between 10 and 14 mph.  

2. New Guy: Rabbi Jeff Sultar may be new to the Rumson-Fair Haven area, but his experience and passion make him an indelible asset to the community. Sultar, who has previously served in Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, and Illinois, will serve as interim Rabbi for Congregation B’nai Israel in Rumson. 3. Man Power: With the large amount of people coming into the small town of Fair Haven this Friday,  are taking all necessary precautions. According to detective Dykstra, the local police plan for possible issues, but they do not expect them. In general, the police expect a much higher volume of traffic coming through town, but they take that as it comes. Around the time of the fair, there will be signs posted on the streets warning people about traffic delays. Click to read more about the precautions the police will be taking during the fair.

4. Irate Irene: Hurricane Irene, currently a category 3 storm bearing down on the Bahamas, is expected to hit the Jersey Shore area by Sunday, forecasters predict. How hard the storm will hit is not known. But current predictions from the National Weather Service put the storm arriving in the area late Saturday or early Sunday, bringing high winds and heavy rain.
