5 Things You Need to Know Today: August 2

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Sunny Skies: According to the National Weather Service, today is going to be sunny with a high near 88 degrees. There will be a northwest wind between 7 and 11 mph. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 70degrees. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the night mainly after 2:00 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. 

2. A Great Buy: Long Pont Estate was recently closed in the single largest residential real estate transaction in the history of Rumson. Originally listed for $29 million, the 18,000-square foot home sold for $12 million. Kelly Zaccaro , a veteran sales assiciate at Gloris Nilson in Rumson, was the agent responsible for the sale. 3. National Night Out: The Fair Haven Police Department will be participating in National Night Out tonight at 7:00pm at the Youth Center, located behind police headquarters. According to Patrolman Stephen Schneider, there  are many fun events planned for this year, including a Dunk Tank sponsored by the Fair Haven PTA, an Adventure Bounce house sponsored by LOK DOC, an inflatable speed pitch with radar sponsored by the Fair Haven Fire Department, an inflatable gaming tent housing four separate games sponsored by the Fair Haven First Aid, a Karate Demonstration by Fair Haven Fitness, a K-9 Demonstration by Sheriffs officer Kurt Kroeper and his K-9 partner Evan of the Monmouth County Sheriffs Department. 4. Shade Trees: Last night, the Rumson Planning Board heard Richard Jones and Cynthia Zipf's presentation of their case against the apparent clear cutting that occurred on 35 Navesink Avenue. Specifically, Jones and Zipf were appealing the decision of the Tree Conservation Officer, Frederick Andre, in the issuance of a tree removal permit for 35 Navesink Ave. Click for more details.

5. Movies in the Park: Head over to Fair Haven Fields to see a movie in the park tonight. They are showing Despicable Me at 8:30pm for Animation Week. They will be collecting non-perishable food items every night during the InVision EyeCare Free Summer Movie Series to benefit local food banks and pantries, including Lunch Break, RAINE, and the Food Bank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties. Everyone who donates food will be put into a weekly drawing to win some great prizes generously donated by the PNC Bank Arts Center, Starland Ballroom, the Lakewood BlueClaws, the New York Red Bulls, Best Buy of Eatontown, and the NJ Festival of Ballooning.
