5 Things You Need to Know Today: August 19

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Sun 'N Showers: According to the National Weather Service, today will be partly sunny, with a high near 83 degrees. There is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly after noon. Some of the storms could produce small hail and heavy rain. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low around 69 degrees. The showers and storms will continue through the night into the early morning. Patchy fog is expected after 2:00 a.m. 

2. Share the Shore: The American Littoral Society is celebrating its 50th anniversary by inviting anyone and everyone from Montauk to the Delaware Bay to participate in its event this Saturday. According to a release from the organization, shore lovers, beach walks, surfers, fishermen, divers, and others will join together to show the world how and why they love the shore, and to promote efforts that protect the ocean and our valuable coastlines. To register for an event in the area, create an event of your own, or for more information, go to www.sharetheshore.net.

3. Upcoming Season at TRT: With its upcoming 2011-12 season right around the corner, Two River Theater has released a list of upcoming shows, as well as how to get tickets if you're interested. The season will launch with Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Concluding the season, Nicholas Martin will direct Alan Ayckbourn’s My Wonderful Day, a farcical comedy about the British middle class as seen through the eyes of a watchful Anglo-Caribbean child. 4. Touchdown! The Rumson-Fair Haven Touchdown Club is hosting a backyard barbeque tonight at 6:00 p.m. at Piping Ridge Park. The event will take place after the RFH Pop Warner Mitey Mite vs RFH High School Varsity Football Team game. There will be music, food and fun. The cost is $20 per adult and $10 per child.
