5 Things You Need to Know Today: August 11

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Clear Skies: According to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high near 84 degrees. There will be a northwest wind around 11 mph. Tonight will be mostly clear with a low around 65 degrees. There will be a northwest wind between 8 and 10 mph. 

2. Clean Streets: The  is hitting the streets to get rid of litter and trash that has built up along many of the main roads. As a result of resident complaints, two DPW employees pick up litter for a few hours on one Saturday each month. On their first day, they picked up over 6 bags of trash. 3. Sail Away: The South Shrewsbury Regatta wrapped up Tuesday after two days of sailing and fun. Fair Haven Sailing Club competed in this regatta. Sailors, instructors and parents packed up gear to move to Monmouth Boat Club to sail the North Shrewsbury Regatta Wednesday and Thursday on the Navesink River. 4. Natural Area: A “tragic mistake” in the  has left years of hard work undone and the meadow susceptible to be overrun by invasive plants. DPW workers accidently bushwhacked around 150 small trees that volunteers planted about a month ago. 5. Lobster Larry: David Burke  in Rumson is hosting the 90.5 The Night Singer Songwriter series on Thursdays through the month of August. Hear your favorite Jersey Shore musicians, beginning 7 p.m. in the bar. Enjoy your favorite cocktail, refreshing homemade iced teas, and a three-course Lobster Larry, served in a personal lobster pail with appetizer and dessert for $39.00 per person.
