5 Things You Need to Know Today: August 1

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Evening Showers: According to the National Weather Service, today is going to be mostly sunny, with a high near 92. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2:00 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 71 degrees. Showers and thunderstorms will continue before 11:00 p.m. There will be a west wind around 7 mph. 

2. Camp Out: The Third Annual Fair Haven Camp Out took place on Saturday night after being postponed due to inclement weather on Friday. The event featured families setting up their tents from 7:00 to 7:30, kickball and games, music by DJ Nick Sulak all evening, a campfire with s'mores, snacks and beverages at the concession stand and lights out at 11:00 p.m. Click to check out a photo gallery from the event.

3. Four! Bill Britton, a Rumson native, competed in the U.S. Senior Open at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio this weeknd. Britton, who has served as Director of Golf Instruction & Schools for Trump National Golf Club in nearby Colts Neck for the past three years, followed up on the weekend with two straight 1-over-par 72s to finish in a four-way tie for 50th place with amateur Tim Jackson, Fred Funk and Jim Carter. 4. Fire and Iced Out: Trainer Bob Baffert's colt Coil sprung from the back to the front of the pack in the final stretch of Sunday's $1 Million Resorts Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park past Preakness winner Shackleford and Belmont champ Ruler On Ice.  A crowd of 38,895 looked on, many of them cheering for local horses Ruler On Ice and Pants On Fire, the pair  and owned by Rumson's George and Lori Hall.
