5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 7

A round-up of useful information and events happening throughout Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Spring Days:  Nothing like days during spring with a mix of sun and showers. Today will start out cloudy and then gradually become mostly sunny with a high near 48. There is a chance of rain before 2 p.m., so throw your umbrella in your bag just in case. Tonight will have a low around 40 degrees. According to the National Weather Service, this mixed weather is expected to continue throughout the weekend.

2. Lock it Up: More residents woke up this Monday morning, one week from the of theft of Fair Haven cars, to find everything missing from their unlocked vehicles. According to a press release, the Fair Haven Police Department received multiple reports of vehicles in town that were entered on the morning of April 4. Whoever entered the unlocked vehicles, searched through the consoles and glove boxes of the vehicles and removed money, electronic equipment, gift cards and personal credentials. The Fair Haven Police Department is urging residents to remember to lock their car doors. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Detective Dykstra at 732-747-0241 Ext. 332 right away.

3. Wine & Martinis: Over 150 people came out to the Salt Creek Grill to celebrate their 13th anniversary and also help support the YMCA’s fight against child obesity. Guests who attended the charity event enjoyed a cocktail hour with delicious food donated by Salt Creek, Lusty Lobster, and Sickles Market. They also had the opportunity to sample Van Gogh martinis, whisky, beer, and wine all donated by a variety of alcohol vendors. The event raised nearly $45,000 to go directly to the Community YMCA to help support programs at the YMCA that keep kids active.

4. Chamber Music: Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) presented a Chamber Music Concert on Tuesday night, April 5. The concert covered the gamut of solos, duets, trios and band performances featuring flute, piano, trumpet, percussion and many more instruments. The two-hour concert integrated classical pieces and modern pop hits for a total of thirty-five songs that made the large auditorium feel like an intimate club.
