5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 6

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. Shaded Vision: Be sure to grab those sunglasses as you head out the door. According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny, with a high near 52. This evening, there is a chance of rain after 5:00p.m. There will be a low around 40 degrees.

2. 3-2-1 Take Off! His childhood dream was to fly. That dream took Douglas Wheelock all the way to space. Now, the have reached back to earth, all the way to Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) students. Colonel Wheelock spoke at an assembly at the high school to hundreds of science students yesterday. 3. Pro-fresh-ional Florist: Have you always wanted to learn how to arrange flowers like a pro? Well now is your chance. Rumson Recreation Department is offering a flower arranging class with our own Craig Kiely and Darryn Murphy. Craig and Darryn will give you an in depth workshop on putting together a perfect arrangement along with choosing the right flowers and containers for different centerpieces. The first two classes will be demonstration only and the last class will be an opportunity for you to make your own arrangement! Classes are on Wednesdays, April 6,13 and 20th from 11-12:30 p.m. at Bingham Hall. Cost is $60 plus the cost of flowers for the last class!

4.  Scoring Hoops for the class of 2012: In the mood for some basketball even though March Madness is over? Then head over to RFH tonight. In order to raise money for the Class of 2012, a 3 on 3 basketball tournament is going down tonight. Teams of three students were arranged among various grades to participate in either the co-ed, all girls, or all boys division. The tournament is from 6-9 pm in the RFH auditorium. Money raised at the event will be used for events for the students when they are seniors like the .

5. Dream Dinner: As part of Jersey Shore Restaurant Week, four local chefs teamed up to create the dream dinner at the Barclay Hotel in Belmar on Monday, April 4. Chefs Chris Brandl of Brandl in Belmar, Thomas Donohoe of Doris and Ed's in Highlands, Larry Baldwin of  in Rumson and Terry Eleftheriou of Shipwreck Grill in Brielle designed the menu. Highlights included braised lamb shank with avocado mousse, grilled pulp with smoked lamb bacon, roasted loin of venison over lobster and potato hash with truffle vinaigrette.
