5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 28

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know today:

1. April Showers: According to the National Weather Service, today will be full of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. The winds will be coming from the south between 18 and 23 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. There will be a high near 65, which is much cooler than the past couple days. Tonight rain is expected to continue until about 8:00 p.m. It will be cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 52. 

2. Election Results: Rumson and Fair Haven residents went out to the polls on April 27 to vote on their school district budgets and board of education members. According to the Monmouth County Clerk Web site, the RFH, Rumson and Fair Haven school budgets were approved. The results are not official until they are certified by the Board of Elections. 3. Old Monmouth: Historic sites across Monmouth County will open their doors on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, May 1 from noon to 5 p.m. The 2011 Weekend in Old Monmouth Tour will highlight the Colonial, military and religious history of Monmouth County. Two sites in Rumson are included in the celebration of Monmouth history: First Presbyterian Church and Seabright Lawn Tennis & Cricket Club. 4. Enviropalooza: ENVIROPALOOZA is the annual event hosted by the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Environmental Club that invites Monmouth County environmental organizations to interact with students in an effort to showcase the efforts being done to improve the ocean, waterways, land and atmosphere of our Jersey Coastal Region. This exciting, educational event is open to the public. The club is collecting old cell phones, flip flops and ink cartridges at the event. Those who donate items will receive a ticket to enter a gift auction for awesome Terracycle prizes. The event starts at 6:00 tonight and goes until 9:00 p.m. Head over to the high school and check it out!
