5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 12

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Rumson and Fair Haven today.

Here is a list of 5 things you should know today:

1. April Showers: After a beautiful day of sun and warm weather, we are getting a slap of reality today. More of that spring rain is upon us, so make sure to grab that umbrella as you run out the door. The National Weather Service is predicting periods of rain, mainly after 8am with a high near 53. The rain will continue into the night with a low around 45. It will be breezy with a east wind between 21 and 23 mph.

2. Lock it up! The Rumson Police Department issued an announcement to all residents asking them to remember to lock their car doors. There has been a series of theft from unlocked vehicles in the borough. Rumson is not alone. Fair Haven has also fallen victim to a from cars along with Red Bank, Little Silver and Shrewsbury. Whoever is entering the cars is not entering with force- just simply testing out the door handle to see if it is open. Police say that when they find an unlocked vehicle, they search through the consoles and glove boxes and remove any money, electronic equipment, gift cards, jewelry, personal credentials or other valuables left in the car. You can avoid having these things stolen from your car by simply remembering to hit the lock button.

4. The Ducks Can Stay! But with some conditions... The Fair Haven Borough Council decided Tuesday night to let 12-year-old Nikki Vouille keep her 6 pet ducks in her back yard as long as she promises to comply with some rules. The young lady came before the Fair Haven Borough Council a month ago to ask the council to for an exception to the non-domestic animals ordinance. This request was challenged by neighbor who said they had many concerns about the ducks attracting rodents and the disposal of duck dropping contaminating their stream. None of those neighbors were at the meeting last night. The council will meet with her neighbors to discuss the conditions in which Nikki will be allowed to keep her ducks and make sure they do not miss anything before they make a final ruling at the next council meeting.
