Exhibition of Artist/Educator Kate Okeson's work at CANVAS this weekend, May 2. Workshop on May 3.

On Friday, May 2 from 6 to 8 pm, CANVAS Studio Art will present local, contemporary book artist and RFH Art Instructor, Kate Okeson. Come meet Okeson, see an exhibition of her one-of-a-kind books and hear her speak about what inspires her to create work in book form. This exhibition will feature various books and projects that Okeson has created.  Unlike traditional paintings or sculpture, the artists’ book “invites us to hold it and turn through its pages.” Free and open to the public, all welcome! 

On Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 12 to 3 pm, Okeson will lead a workshop to guide artists to create their own personal narrative in book form.  Each book project will include bindings and interiors. The workshop is for teens and adults of all artistic abilities.  The cost is $150 and includes all the materials needed to complete a book.

Since 2002, Okeson has been a fine arts educator at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School in Rumson, NJ.  A graduate of the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University with a concentration in Artists’ Books, Photography and Installation and the College of Education at Seton Hall University, Okeson has taught at CANVAS and other schools throughout New Jersey.  She has previously exhibited her artwork at galleries in New Jersey and New York. 

CANVAS Studio Art, located at 126 East River Road in Rumson, NJ, is an art studio established by artists for artists and offers classes and workshops throughout the year for kids, teens and adults.
