Attention Local Artists: Free Painting Demo with Master Painter at CANVAS Studio Art in Rumson

CANVAS Studio Art in Rumson, New Jersey is proud to present American master painter, John Phillip Osborne, on Tuesday morning, May 6, 2014.  Come meet Osborne, see a demonstration of his oil painting technique and hear him speak about the importance of capturing light both in the studio and outdoors. Free and open to the public, the demonstration will run from 10 am to noon, followed by an informal reception. Although the program is free, a reservation is required. Please RSVP to info@canvasstudioart.com.

Osborne, a native of northern New Jersey, built a career around painting the natural landscapes of the Hudson Valley area. A cum laude graduate of the Pratt Institute in New York, Osborne has won numerous awards for his work and is currently showing in galleries throughout the United States and abroad. A senior instructor at the Ridgewood Art Institute, Osborne has taught oil painting “en plein air” (outdoors) and in the studio for close to 40 years. Know for his handling of light and attention to atmospheric effects, he excels in recording specific times of day, seasons and weather conditions.

Lauren Andreach, a former student of Osborne and a classically trained oil painting instructor asked Osborne to come to CANVAS to demonstrate his unique painting technique. “I studied with him for seven years so it is a privilege to have him come to Rumson.  He generally teaches in northern New Jersey, New York and Nantucket so we are proud to offer the local arts community this opportunity to watch him work. I know when other artists observe him they will find inspiration and encouragement. I did. And now I continue his teaching traditions in my Thursday morning class at CANVAS.”
