Long Point Estate in Rumson Sells for $12 Million

This sale is the largest residential real estate transaction in Rumson history.

Long Point Estate was recently closed in the single largest residential real estate transaction in the history of Rumson.

Former Citigroup executive and Heisman Trophy winner Pete Dawkins originally listed the home for $29 million. The 18,000-square-foot home sold for $12 million.

Kelly Zaccaro, a veteran sales associate at in Rumson, was the buyers agent who will go down in real estate history for this sale. “I had a buyer who saw an opportunity to acquire, arguably, one of the most prestigious estates in all of New Jersey,” Zaccaro explained.

Zaccaro said that this estate is located on prime Rumson territory. “It is located at one of the best spots on the Navesink River on the Rumson side. The property comes out on a point so you have an excellent view. There are views from every single room,” she said.

The home is located on 10.4 acres and is gated in on a private peninsula surrounded by the Navesink River. Built in 2004, the home has 5 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, and a 6-car garage. It features Shingle-style architecture and bold architectural elements such as barrel ceilings, vast archways and stunning views of the river from nearly every window. The house also has spectacular outdoor living and entertaining spaces as well as outbuildings. The home’s renowned architectural firm gave it the name Long Point.

Zacarro said that negotiating a deal of this magnitude is a challenge, even for an agent that has been working in the area for over 10 years. “It was a challenge it was not easy. When you are dealing with that much money, you can imagine it can be difficult,” she said. “It took 6 months of negotiating, there were ups and downs, but eventually we got there.”

According to Zacarro, the sale that came closest to Long Point in Rumson was a home that sold for over $8 million in 2005 “when the market was still good.”

According to PJ Rotchford, broker and sales manager for the Gloria Nilson Rumson office, it isn’t surprising the sale of Long Point broke all records.

“It was clearly a special property and a magnificent home. What is also not surprising is that once again the buyer was a local resident,” Rotchford noted. “In the last 10 years, more than 90 percent of the estate homes sold in the Rumson area have been purchased by families living locally or with direct ties to the area, again confirming Rumson and its immediate neighbors are the best kept secret in the New York-Metropolitan area.”

“Opportunities like this don’t come around that often. This house is one of a kind., and locals really can appreciate that,” said Zaccaro of the sale.
