Free Outdoor Movies on Sea Bright Beach All Summer Long

The Sea Bright Business Alliance is sponsoring free movies on the beach all summer long for local families.

Whats better then watching free outdoor movies on warm summer nights? Watching them on the beach, of course.

Now through the end of August, the Sea Bright Business Alliance is offering free outdoor movies on the beach every Tuesday night. Families from local communities come armed with blankets and chairs to enjoy a free family movie on Sea Bright Public Beach.

"This is a way for the local businesses to get people to come to Sea Bright for the night," said Tim Mulheren, Sea Bright fire fighter and employee at Sea Bright Chapel Beach Club.

Mulheren and his brother Sandy own the equipment used to present the movies on the beach. Every Tuesday night, Mulheren parks on the beach and sets up his large, blow up screen and movie projector.

"Basically, the Sea Bright Business Alliance rents this equipment from me and my brother to show free movies to local families," said Mulheren. "I volunteer to operate the equipment for the night."

According to their website, the Sea Bright Business Alliance is a 100% volunteer organization. Members consist of local business owners who care about Sea Bright and the surrounding community.

The outdoor movies take place on the public beach right behind the Firehouse on Ocean Avenue. The movies start as soon as it gets dark. Families are encouraged to come early and enjoy dinner before the movie at a local restaurant in Sea Bright.

According to Mulheren, the movies on the beach have been a hit so far. "We have seen almost 300 people in one night come out to one of these movies," Mulheren said. "The snack bar right next door stays open late, and that's been a real hit with people."

The snack bar located right next to the Firehouse is called the Marine Grille Beach Cafe. Worker Kristen McConbille said they get lots of business of Tuesday nights. "People come in for late night desserts, burgers, fries and on hot nights were serve smoothies," McConbille said. "We also give out free popcorn to people who come in."

The Taylor family of Rumson set up with their blankets, chairs and snacks about an hour before the movie started. "You have to come early if you want good seats," said mother Aubrey Taylor. "It gets really packed. Since we have been on the beach all day anyway, we just come and set our spot up early."

This past Tuesday night the movie Megamind was shown. The schedule for the rest of the summer is as follows:

August 2:   Tangled
August 9:   Despicable Me
August 16:   Shrek Forever After
August 23:   Secretariat
August 30:   Toy Story 3
