If you're headed over to Molly Maguire's Blackpoint Inn in Rumson this week, you may notice that the sign is missing from the front of the building and it's closed.

"Yes, I can confirm a temporary closing for what I believe is a few days," Rumson Police Chief Scott Paterson told Patch. "The closing is the result of an ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) violation that occurred on or about the time of the St. Patrick's Day Parade (in Rumson)."

Part of the penalty for the violation, he said, was the closure at a time of the owners' choosing. Paterson declined to offer any further detail.

However, Mayor John Ekdahl, while not elaborating on the incident itself that precipitated the shut-down, chalked up what he only said was not typical for Maguire's as an "unfortunate" lesson learned.

"Molly Maguire’s has not been a chronic problem," Ekdahl said. "I feel the incident of March 10 , while very unfortunate, is not emblematic to the type of establishment the Maguires are running. There have been no other issues since then. Hopefully this is a lesson learned and we move on."

The Maguires did not return calls seeking comment.
