Bites Nearby: Barnacle Bill's Grog Shop

Ship-shaped restaurant serves up juicy patties of beef with crispy steak fries and provides a homey, casual family dining experience.

As a lover of traditional American food, I’ve had my share of burgers. If you are from the area you most likely know that one of the best places to get a generously sized piece of the best quality beef is at Barnacle Bill’s in Rumson.  Juicy and sinful, you really must treat yourself to Barnacle’s when you are craving it.

Located on First Street by the river, the restaurant looks like a ship sitting on the water, with lifesavers and anchors decorating the inside. They have unlimited amount of peanuts, allowing the shells to scatter the floor. It has a truly homey and casual feel and a great place to bring your family. My family and I have been going there for years, and every time we have been there, it has been packed.

The signature burger is a 10 ounce patty of goodness. When in the mood for beef, I order a cheddar burger that I devour with lettuce, tomato, ketchup and a basket of their crispy steak fries. In the burger category, they also serve sandwiches like the steak sandwich, open face reuben, or the Philadelphia cheese steak. When I am in the mood for something a little lighter, their chicken caesar salad is very creamy and delicious as are a wide variety of other salads that can be served vegetarian. Other vegetarian dishes there include fried zucchini and side dishes of steamed vegetables.

With fresh fish available and market price, Barnacle’s is a great place for seafood lovers as well. They offer fresh steamed lobster, fresh sea scallops, fresh flounder, shrimp scampy, surf & turf (7-ounce lobster tail and an 8-ounce Filet Mignon) and much more. They also serve traditional Italian dishes like chicken parmigiana and pasta primavera. They also have many appetizers, sides, and desserts to choose from.

Barnacle Bill’s has a full bar. To find out more, please visit their website or call 732-747-8396.
