Throwback Thursday: 1959 School Daze

It's 1959. Do you know where your children are?

According to the photos above, they are in class or the auditorium at Knollwood School, getting pictures taken and/or celebrating the holidays.

Fair Haven Schools Superintendent Nelson Ribon got an interesting, thoughtful surprise in the mail recently. Yes, the mail.

A woman whose son bought a home once owned by former teacher Mrs. Skillman wrote to Ribon telling him that she had found old school pictures in the attic of her son's new house and thought that they should be preserved for all to enjoy, rather than letting them end up in the trash, according to Fair Haven Board of Education member Katy Badt Frissora, who shared the photos with Patch and on the Fair Haven Facebook page.

Do you know anyone in this class or any of these photos? Tell us.

In the 1960s, kindergarten was held at the Youth Center and the kids were transported there by a rope led by a very official-looking crossing guard type. Yes, a rope.

This week, Patch featured old school photos as a fun tribute to picture day at Knollwood. Here's something else to think about: Kids used to list the names of their classmates on the back of the class photos. The ones they didn't like, they'd note in code. What was your code?

It isn't difficult to figure out what mine was. Take a look at the photo included in the above gallery of the back of one of the pics. Oh, brother. I honestly don't know what we were thinking, except that we were convinced that one kid ate pencils and we were afraid to go near him.

Apologies, classmates.
